It grossed $40,089,015 on its opening weekend, surpassing the film's $38 million budget. The Fast and the Furious was met with mixed reviews, and received particularly harsh criticism for what some felt was its derivative storyline, which shared many similarities with the 1987 film No Man's Land. The movie spawned video games and three sequels. The movie was filmed under the working-title "Redline" and it was not until months after wrapping that the title was officially set. The title was later used by an unrelated film that drew its inspiration from The Fast and the Furious.
Audience
The audience for Fast and the furious was aimed at 12a this means children age 12 had to accompany by an adult to watch this. Personally I think this movie is aimed at mainly men and boys as there is a lot of fast cars and a lot of action however looking at some reviews on the movie page website a lot of girls have reviewed on the movie which proves that my opinion is wrong. The Fast and furious film got a total of three stars out of a possible 5 stars. When I watched the first 5 minutes of this film I was actually a little bored personally it was not a brilliant movie and was not as good as I expected it to be I was quite disappointed however its only my view I am not interested in fast car ,action movies this is why it did not appeal to me however the way the movie was contrasted was amazing. On the IMDB website there was the following comment – FAST AND THE FURIOUS does not try to be something it is not. Therefore, it surprises me to no end that I will say that FURIOUS is a decent movie. For dialogue, everything is one-lined crazy nonsense. Most characters are ultimately cruel to everyone and each other. Some lame brained antics are done. But it all works out. FAST AND THE FURIOUS is definitely for these times and shows all aspects of the real world and who survives in it through cars and the people that drive them. After losing his job to Dominic Toretto, an untouchable to some, Brian sets out to win his respect by putting his car on the line against the speed demon. Meanwhile, the cops are desperately seeking the perpetrators of several truck hijackings and believe Toretto is the man behind it. With a built of guilt in me, I am proud of saying that FURIOUS was impressive in its execution. The editing was top notch, the camera work well laid out and some surprising acting from a script made of cardboard. There was not much you could do with FURIOUS, but then it starts to feature more on the engines than the cars themselves. It also never forgets the story. FAST AND THE FURIOUS smokes the competition in its genre, if only for the moment.” This shows that the film has impressed viewers by its action and the story line the viewer who left this comment gave it 7 stars out of a possible 10 stars.
Technology
Throughout the film the fast and the furious there was allot of different technologies used to create different scenes for example for the explosions scenes there was a lot of different equipment used to create and keep the actors safe whilst working around fire. There was also different technological equipment used to film as they need to make each camera shot looking steady and natural which is not always easy when you try and keep within a particular budget and making sure you keep up with your cast whilst they are acting. The technology has increased for positive reasons as it has increased the audience knowledge of the film, as it looks more realistic for the audience and more believable .This really draws the viewers in as they start to believe the plot of the story and they put themselves in the characters shoes. When the director is shooting the film he really puts himself into the audience shoes which then tells him whether he is doing the right job or not. As technology has increased this movie has become more assessable as it is now on rent in DVD shops, you can view it over the internet and you can now view it even on your ipods, this means there are more views being processed for this film.
Thriller genre
The Fast and furious film is an ACTION/CRIME thriller as it involves a lot of car chases and explosions. BY looking at this genre you can be very stereotypical as you would immediately think it is for men/boys by just hearing what the genre is. Personally I think that this film would mainly be interesting to the men this is just from a sociological view by being stereotypical.
Representation
To me in this film all the women are very glamorous; however in the real world women are not like that day in day out which to personally is not far on the women as the men will have an image of a women looking like that all the time which will make the women fell very self conscious this is just from my view. Now being stereotypical I just think the director has aimed this film at men only thee is nothing that women can relate to in this movie, however they would relate to some of the male characters as they our very good looking men which would appeal to the women.
Mise en scene
This film is incredible as it shows many different car chases and races; this has been shown with a various different amount of camera angles, The following beside the text shows a car race gone wrong which really makes you sit on the edge of your seat as you wonder what is going to happen next.
