Vacancy

Vacancy is a 2007 horror/thriller film, starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale. It was distributed by screen gems and was released on the 20th April 2007. It has a running time of 85 minutes and was on a budget of $19,000,000.

The music and sound for the film "Vacancy" it makes the film seem very intense and has you sitting on the edge of your seat as it creates allot of tension. To more the music changes at certain points of the music which makes it seem more daunting and a little bit scared as you do not know what to expect. The film is set in California and has them driving through a dark isolated road at the beginning this make you film nervous as you know something is going to happen as they are alone on the road. About 4 minutes into the film they turn up at an isolated gas station and motel this instantly makes you wonder what is going on. In the first 5 minutes of the film you are introduced to 3 characters a husband and wife who`s relationship looks very tense and unhappy this is due to the loss of there little boy "Charlie", the other character is a mechanic all in black he looks fairly specious as he is wearing all black and just suddenly appears from no where, but he acts the good guy and help the strained couple out , but to me there is something about him they the viewers should look out for. The narrative of the film really helps set the mood for the film, as at the opening titles all the titles are in red and some of the letters drip with blood this sets you up to know that to expect something bad to happen to a character. Also throughout the scene with the couple in the car there is a repeat of the husband rubbing his eyes over and over again is this due to him taking some pills or does this show us he is tired of his relationship with his wife.

The Departed

The Departed is a 2006 American crime drama film remake of the HONG KONG film INFERNAL AFFAIRS. This film was directed by Martin Scorsesse and stars Matt Damen and Leonardo DiCaprico. It has a running time of 151minute and was on a budget of $90 million.

The Departed is a gangster thriller. At the beginning the film is opened with a fight which makes you jump as you do not expect to instantly starts with a fight this fight is a flash back which shows the discrimination and racism a few years back. At the beginning the is a narrator explaining what is happening he is one of the main characters MR .C he is racist as he uses very harsh words to different ethnic around the world. MR.C is a gangster and a possible dealer as you see he receiving cash to me he is a bully and everyone is scared and intimidated by he and does not dare to question him. He is also abit of a ladies man as when he speaks to a young girl she start to blush. At the beginning MR.C is not fully revealed he is kept behind a shadowed face this makes you want to see his face as you want to know whether it gives you any clues. Another Characters is revealed he is a young lad doing odd jobs for this bully of a character he is quite naive, innocent and really does not have an understanding of what is going on. The setting of the film is in Boston as there is a nice beach and you Can hear the seagulls and the see brushing up against the shore, however this is interrupted by allot of fighting, racism, corruption and is very unsettling .This makes you think differently of this small village. Through part of this film there is a voice over which is a typical gangster voice which suddenly tells the viewer what the film is about.

  1. A good effort Toni. When you write up your notes, try to tackle a section at a time e.g write about the sound, then a separate paragraph about characters.
